Valley Public Radio will host a ribbon cutting ceremony for its new broadcast center on Sept. 21.

Construction on the new center, located on the northwest corner of Alluvial and Temperance avenues in the Clovis Tech Park, broke ground last May after Valley Public Radio received a flood of support from listeners and community leaders who donated funds to make the project a reality.

Initial funds were raised as part of a matching grant challenge from the San Francisco-based nonprofit James Irvine Foundation. Local lead donors, such as the Assemi family, also helped push the station to its fundraising goals. By May, Valley Public Radio had already raised $1.6 million towards the project.

The new facility will allow the station to continue providing news and music content to Central Valley residents as well as offer a learning space for students interested in journalism reporting and the business of public media.

The ribbon cutting ceremony will provide an opportunity for the community to see and tour the new broadcast center.

The ceremony begins at 10 a.m. at the new center at 2589 Alluvial Ave. in Clovis.
