At The Business Journal, storytelling has always been at the heart of what we do. For more than a century — and now as we celebrate 140 years as a family publishing company through Pacific Publishing Group — we’ve had the privilege of highlighting the leaders, entrepreneurs and businesses shaping the Central Valley. We’ve told stories of growth, innovation and success.
But there’s another story unfolding across our region — one that deserves just as much recognition.
It’s the story of giving back.
Every day, businesses are investing in their communities, nonprofit organizations are creating meaningful change and individuals are dedicating their time, resources and leadership to make the Central Valley a better place to live, work and raise a family. These efforts often happen quietly, without recognition — but their impact is profound and lasting.
That’s why we created the Philanthropy Excellence Awards.

This new program is designed to shine a spotlight on those who are making a difference — not just in business, but in the lives of others. It’s about celebrating organizations and individuals who lead with purpose, who understand that success is not only measured by growth, but by the impact they leave behind.
As a fifth-generation family business, this initiative is especially meaningful to me. The values that have guided our company for 140 years — integrity, community and long-term commitment — are the same values we see reflected in the nominees and future honorees of this program.
Through the Philanthropy Excellence Awards, we aim to recognize:
- Businesses that are deeply committed to community impact
- Nonprofits that are driving measurable change
- Leaders who are advancing missions and inspiring others
- Families and individuals whose generosity strengthens our region
- Emerging organizations that represent the future of philanthropy
This isn’t just another event. It’s an opportunity to elevate the stories that often go untold that define the heart of the Central Valley.
We are proud to launch this program during such a meaningful milestone year for our company — and even more excited about what it represents for our community moving forward.
I invite you to be part of this inaugural year, whether by submitting an application, nominating an organization or joining us in celebrating those who are making a difference.
Because when we recognize impact, we inspire more of it.
We also invite businesses across the Central Valley to be part of this meaningful initiative by becoming a sponsor of the Philanthropy Excellence Awards. This is a unique opportunity to align your brand with purpose, support the organizations making a difference, and stand alongside the leaders shaping our community.
Together, we can elevate these stories—and continue building a stronger, more vibrant Central Valley.
