A new affordable housing complex is having a grand opening Thursday, bringing 41 units to Blackstone Avenue in Fresno.
Festivities kick-off at 10 a.m. for The Arthur @ Blackstone, what the developers call a transformative development that broke ground in June 2022.
Located 3045 N. Blackstone Ave., the site was once home to the beloved Arthur’s Toys store and AJ’s Tuxedo Shop. The opening marks a significant milestone in addressing the housing needs of the community, especially young people transitioning from foster care, according to a news release from Fresno Housing, which developed the project with a variety of funding partners.
The event will bring together key stakeholders, including representatives from Fresno Housing, the California State Treasurer’s office, local government officials and community leaders. Speakers will address various aspects related to affordable housing, community reinvestment and the significance of the Arthur @ Blackstone in meeting Fresno’s housing needs.
The development will create 41 units of affordable housing targeting low-income families. Twenty of the apartments will be reserved for young people facing homelessness or those transitioning out of institutions.
The Fresno County Department of Behavioral Health will provide residents with dedicated onsite supportive services. The agency will provide resources like case management, therapy, peer support and more.
