The Water Lantern Festival will return to Fresno on March 7 at Woodward Park in northeast Fresno. The event tours nationally and is organized by the Utah-based Water Lantern Festival.
It typically draws crowds of thousands across the country. Guests are able to personalize floating lanterns with messages of hope, remembrance and intention before releasing them onto the water at sunset.
In addition to the lantern launch, the event will feature live music, local food vendors and activities for families. The news release said the festival provides an inclusive atmosphere that attracts families, couples and individuals seeking a shared experience.
This year’s event is aligned with America250, the nationwide initiative celebrating the 250th anniversary of the United States in 2026.
“Moments of reflection and unity have always been part of America’s story,” said Jen Condon, executive vice president of America250, in a statement. “Water Lantern Festival creates meaningful spaces for communities to come together, and we’re proud to partner with them as we commemorate America’s 250th anniversary.”
Organizers said environmental stewardship remains a priority. A dedicated cleanup team collects lanterns and materials following the event to preserve the park.
Tickets are available online, with advance purchase required. Event details and updates can be found at WaterLanternFestival.com and on the festival’s social media channels.
