A local HVAC contractor is accepting nominations for its first-ever air conditioning giveaway, offering one deserving family a new heating and cooling system ahead of the summer heat.

Valley Air Conditioning & Repair (VAR), a family-owned business serving the Central Valley for more than 55 years, has partnered with national HVAC brand Trane to give away one complete AC and heating system and standard installation to a qualifying family in need.

“VAR is a locally, family-owned business here in the Central Valley for over 55 years and we’ve always felt very passionately about giving back to the community, especially our direct community here,” said Teresa Low, human resources director at VAR. “We wanted to give back and show those in need that we support them and that our company cares about the community that supported us for so many years.”

Low said the company has made donations to individuals in the past, but this marks the first time VAR has opened a nomination-based giveaway to the public. The company hopes the system will go to a family facing financial hardship or medical challenges — people who may not otherwise have access to reliable year-round climate control.

No purchase is necessary to nominate a family or to be considered. Nominations must be submitted by March 30, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. To be eligible, nominees must own their home and reside within VAR’s greater Fresno and Clovis service area. Nominees cannot be nominated by someone living in the same household, and the existing HVAC system must be at least 10 years old and in poor condition — or the home must have no central HVAC system at all.

Because every HVAC system is unique and dependent on factors such as home size, no set dollar value has been assigned to the prize. The giveaway has no cash value, is non-transferable, and may not be substituted or exchanged for other goods or services. Additional costs beyond standard installation — such as ductwork modifications, electrical upgrades, code compliance corrections, or other unforeseen requirements — are not included unless explicitly stated in writing. Final eligibility and system installation will be subject to a required on-site evaluation.
