The Fresno Bee has named Joe Kieta as its editor and vice president, the same position he occupied at The Modesto Bee.

“Since arriving in 2012, Kieta has worked to quicken the pace of the newsroom’s digital transformation, establishing itself as one of the leaders in McClatchy audience growth,” according to Bee staff reports. “He also helped shepherd award-winning investigative and accountability journalism, including a series of stories that detailed the exceedingly slow pace of justice in Stanislaus County courts.”

Kieta received the McClatchy President’s Award for a 2014 series on local businesses that were hit with predatory lawsuits under the Americans with Disabilities Act.

He replaces Jim Boren, who is retiring from the paper effective Jan. 19 after 48 years, according to the Fresno Bee.
