Fresno City Councilmember Miguel Arias announced Wednesday he has allocated $86,900 of District 3’s infrastructure funds to repair the roof of Warnors Theatre in Downtown Fresno.
With the funds, Warnors Theatre, a historical landmark, will undergo roof recoating, which will help remove debris. The 96-year-old theater will also undergo pressure washing, foam coating and reapplication of acrylic paint.
Earlier this month, observers conducting a site visit noticed water falling through the roof and into buckets on the theater floor.
Arias credits the City of Fresno’s partners, “who share a commitment to celebrating arts and culture through preservation,” for making the repair of the Warnors Theatre possible.
He mentions how the city has similarly allocated funds for historical assets such as the Water Tower, Hotel Fresno, Arte Américas, African-American Museum, Meux Home and the Old Armenian Homes.
“This City investment ensures Warnors Theatre receives
immediate financial assistance to complete necessary repairs, preserving the integrity of the historic jewel,” Arias said in the press release. “I encourage the community to join us in supporting these efforts by philanthropically contributing to nonprofit organizations.”
Earlier this year, the Warnors Center, which holds the Warnors Theatre, Frank’s Place and Star Palace, received $302,100 between the Cultural Arts Plan from Measure P and project-specific grants.
A campaign for additional funds will be launched next month with a focus on further improvements to the Warnors Center. Donations can be made on the Warnors Center website.
