After more than 70 years at the Visalia Courthouse, the Tulare County assessor/clerk-recorder’s office is moving to Government Plaza across from Mooney Grove Park in Visalia.
Tulare County will mark the relocation with a grand opening Wednesday, Sept. 2, from 9 a.m. to noon, according to a news release. The event will include a ribbon-cutting and walking tour of the remodeled offices.
What’s happening
The new assessor/clerk-recorder offices occupy 21,000 square feet at Government Plaza. The space became available in 2024 after the registrar of voters and print and mail Services moved out.
According to the county, much of the vacant space was unfinished and lacked office improvements, giving officials an opportunity to remodel it specifically for the assessor/clerk-recorder’s operations.
“This move represents a significant investment in the people we serve,” Assessor/Clerk-Recorder Tara Freitas said. “The new offices will provide a more welcoming and convenient experience for the public, with improved access to services, additional service counters, self-service options, and better parking.”
Freitas said the changes are intended to reduce wait times and make county services easier to access.
Why it matters
The relocation puts the assessor/clerk-recorder’s office next to the county’s Resource Management Agency, providing a more centralized location for some government services.
For example, the county said visitors completing business at the RMA Permit Center will be able to walk across the lobby to ask assessment questions or file fictitious business name statements with the Assessor/Clerk-Recorder’s Office.
The remodeled facility also includes modern workspaces, conference rooms and a dedicated classroom. Freitas said those additions will provide employees with more opportunities for training and professional collaboration.
