Less than a year after closing its doors, a longtime Fresno landmark is preparing for an anticipated comeback.
Sequoia Brewing Company will reopen its North Fresno location on Oct. 10, with a ribbon cutting ceremony hosted by the Fresno Chamber of Commerce, according to Second Growth Brewing LLC, the brewery’s new ownership group.
The Tower District location at 777 E. Olive Ave. is also expected to reopen in the coming weeks.
The reopening is led by a group of Fresno business leaders, including Fresno Chamber CEO Scott Miller, Fresno County Economic Development Corp. CEO Will Oliver, attorneys Ian Wieland and Joseph Doerr and businessman Bill Avakian.
Daily operations will be overseen by Operations Manager Stacey Dwyer, Master Brewer Andrew Ford, Champlain General Manager Emanuel Acero and Tower Manager Jessie Lipper.
“Sequoia Brewing has always been more than a restaurant or brewery—it’s a part of the community’s story,” said Stacey Dwyer. “We’re proud to bring it back, honoring its roots while adding new flavors and experiences for the future.”
The brewery had been a longtime Central Valley gathering spot, but closed in February after a turbulent stretch under previous owners Jeremy and Allison Smith. The pair purchased the business in 2020, however, court filings included allegations of mismanagement and workplace issues.
In 2024, Fresno County Superior Court records revealed the North Fresno landlord filed to evict the company and a former employee filed an age discrimination lawsuit against the brewery.
Dwyer said that the reopening will blend tradition with new ideas.
The reopening ceremony is scheduled for 11 a.m. at its 1188 E. Champlain Dr., suite 107 located near the corner of Champlain Drive and Perrin Avenue.
