California’s grape crop continues to shrink as farmers transition to more popular crops that are less labor intensive.
Last year, the state’s raisin acreage fell 5 percent to 172,000 acres compared to 2014. Compared to 2015, the decrease was 7.5 percent.
Table grape and wine acreage also fell year-over-year in the Golden State by about 1 percent each.
Combining all types of grapes, including bearing and non-bearing acreage, grape acreage fell 2.3 percent between last year and 2015.
The data presented by the National Agricultural Statistics Services is based off of a survey of 9,100 grape growers.
