The Poverello House board of directors has announced the appointment of a new CEO with a long history of nonprofit work.

Effective last Monday, Zack Darrah took the position for the nonprofit, after the departure of former CEO Cruz Avila.

“I am humbled and honored to be the next leader of Poverello House,” Darrah said. “I look forward to working with the Board, the staff and the community to ensure that we continue to passionately advance our mission well into the future.”

Darrah has experience in strategic planning, community advocacy, staff and leadership development, financial stewardship, fund development, outreach volunteer management and daily operations. He previously served as the executive director for Fresno Interdenominational Refugee Ministries (FIRM) for more than five years, where he engaged in building and supporting community solutions to address social service needs.

“Poverello House staff, donors and volunteers make a profound impact on our community,” stated board co-chairs Tom Ferdinandi and Rob Veneski. “Zack is committed to leading these efforts and mission inspired by our founder, ‘Papa Mike’ McGarvin.”

Darrah holds a B.A. degree in business administration from Fresno Pacific University and an M.A. in theology/theological studies from Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary in Virginia.
