BANKING

Central Valley Community Bank officials in Fresno announced the promotion of Mark Smith to senior vice president, Central Valley commercial team leader. Smith, a seasoned commercial lender, joined the bank in 2005 and has 20 years of financial industry experience, over half of which has been with Central Valley Community Bank. In his new role, he will manage a team of 10 commercial lenders who are responsible for the development and management of new and existing commercial lending relationships in Fresno and Madera counties. HEALTH CARE

Gracie Robles, HR director for Family HealthCare Network in Visalia, is the recent recipient of the prestigious Geiger Gibson Emerging Leader Award. The Emerging Leader Award is part of the Geiger Gibson Program in Community Health Policy at the Milken Institute School of Public Health at the George Washington University, and was created to highlight and share the accomplishments of exceptional young members of health centers and primary care associations.

ENGINEERING

Provost & Pritchard Consulting Group has announced the addition of four new staff members:  Len Marino, a principal engineer based out of Provost & Pritchard’s Modesto office; William Vanderwaal, a senior engineer working out of the firm’s Chico office; Woody Newton as a senior field representative; and Angelina Camarena as an accounting specialist, both based out of the Fresno office.  
 
ARTS

The Academy of American Poets has selected 34-year-old Hmong-American Mai Der Vang as the winner of this year’s prestigious Walt Whitman Award. Each year the honor goes to an emerging writer to make possible the publication of their first book. Vang is a native of Fresno, and is a teacher at Clovis Community College.

INSURANCE

Der Manouel Insurance Group in Fresno is pleased to announce that Kanda Petersen, AFIS, AIS, has joined the firm as a commercial lines account manager.

NONPROFITS

The Central Valley Community Foundation (formerly the Fresno Regional Foundation) has added three new staff members. Carol Christenson joined in February as the director of marketing and communications. She relocated from Boulder, Colorado where she owned and operated a communications company focused on awareness and fund raising. Tim Nightingale received his Master of Arts in peacemaking and conflict studies from Fresno Pacific University in 2012. He will handle fundraising. Kristin Ainley joined in March as a foundation support specialist. A Georgia native, she holds degrees in international affairs and public relations from the University of Georgia.
