Former Los Angeles chef Chris Flint, who served as executive chef at a pair of Michelin-recognized restaurants in Southern California, has been named the new culinary director of DDR Hospitality, which oversees Château du Sureau and its Elderberry House restaurant near Oakhurst.

In addition to serving as culinary director for Château du Sureau and Elderberry House, Flint will also oversee DDR‘s food and beverage operations at First and Oak restaurant at the Mirabelle Inn in Solvang, as well as The Mulholland, a restaurant scheduled to open in Calabasas in 2023.

Prior to joining DDR Hospitality, Flint served as executive chef at Fellow in Los Angeles, which earned a Michelin plate award, and also served as executive chef at Maude in Beverly Hills, which earned a single Michelin star recognition.

Flint spent ten years working in operations, development and a variety of other leadership roles with the fine dining group Make It Nice Hospitality. He served as chef de cuisine at Eleven Madison Park — the group’s flagship restaurant in Manhattan.

“It is an honor to be working with the extremely talented team at Château du Sureau and Elderberry House,” Flint said. “When staying there as a guest, I was so impressed with the elevated level of hospitality I experienced, as well as the inspired food and gracious service offered at the Elderberry House.”

Flint earned a Master of Culinary Arts degree from the French Culinary Institute in New York. He started his career as a sous chef at Bouley restaurant in New York City.

“I really look forward to collaborating with Chef Ethan and the rest of the team and positioning this Relais and Chateaux hidden gem as a premier dining destination in California’s Central Valley,” Flint said.

Ethan de Graaf is head chef of the European-inspired Elderberry House, considered one of the Central Valley’s finest culinary destinations. Featuring 10 luxury guest rooms, Château du Sureau features a full-service spa, outdoor pool and expansive gardens just 16 miles from Yosemite National Park.
