Nordstrom officials notified Fresno Economic Development Director Larry Westerlund late Wednesday that the company has decided to delay any decision to build a new West Coast e-commerce distribution center in either Fresno or Visalia.

Nordstrom told Westerlund the company was delaying the decision until market conditions improved.

“They told me they do plan to make a decision by 2020,” Westerlund said. “Although I think it could come sooner than that too.”

The Visalia-Times Delta is reporting that Nordstrom also sent Visalia Mayor Steve Nelsen a letter with a similar message, explaining the company is “reevaluating their timing.”

Nordstrom was also considering building the new distribution center, projected to have created hundreds of new jobs, in a third, out-of-state city thought to be either Las Vegas or Reno.
