A local construction company has announced layoffs as part of a winding down of its operations.

G&G Construction Co. has offices in Selma, Sacramento and its corporate office in the Merced County town of Atwater.

Ramiro Mendez, a spokesperson for the company, said G&G’s shareholders decided to part ways.

Mendez said the Atwater office will stay open until the end of April, but operations will cease earlier in Selma and Sacramento. The Selma office plans to layoff 64 employees, according to a noticed filed with the state. The Atwater office will include 135 layoffs.

Mendez said construction activity has slowed in recent years, but there is still a lot of work getting done.

G&G Construction Co., under parent company Gino/Giuseppe, Inc., is a family business that opened in 1983. By 2007, the company incorporated to what became known as G&G Construction Co.

At peak market activity, the company would employ about 700 people at any given time, according to its website.
