Kohl’s and Gap Inc. have announced the beginning of the holiday hiring season with combined targets of 1,050 seasonal jobs in the Central Valley.

Gap will be hiring 600 seasonal positions for its Gap, Banana Republic and Old Navy stores as well as its Fresno distribution center, according to a news release. Interviews will largely take place at an event Oct. 5 between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. at Gap stores. The company encourages job-seekers to fill out applications prior to interviews.

Gap Inc. sent an email Monday correcting the original number of positions it would be hiring in the Central Valley.

Seasonal workers enjoy the same employee discount of 50% off of merchandise.

Kohl’s has plans to hire more than 450 seasonal employees in Fresno, with goals of 90,000 nationwide. A hiring event will be held on Oct. 5.

Applications can be submitted online.

CNBC predicts a 5% uptick in holiday sales this year, but it also predicts 53% of shopping will be done digitally. So the increase in holiday spending may not necessarily translate into foot traffic for businesses, according to the financial news site.
