Kaiser Permanente is now offering a first-of-its-kind health care plan the provider said offers the affordability of HMO plans with the flexibility of PPO plans.

KP Plus allows members to receive care from Kaiser Permanente doctors and facilities, and also provides patients with limited access to out-of-network providers.

Under the new plan, members can use up to ten office visits or other outpatient services, and five prescription fills or refills annually, outside the Kaiser Permanente network without a referral or prior authorization.

The provider said monthly rates for KP Plus are generally lower than those of a typical PPO plan. The company described its plan as “first of its kind,” designing it to meet both demand for affordability and provider choice.

The plan includes preventive care, including physicals, well-child visits and screening tests with no copay, as well as fixed out-of-pocket costs for most covered services within Kaiser Permanente’s network. Members are also able to access round-the-clock virtual care, prescription refills at Kaiser Permanente’s pharmacies and digital health tools through the provider’s website and the KP App, available on the Google Play Store and Apple App Store.

KP Plus members will also receive access to health and wellness programs at no cost, including lifestyle coaching, virtual care options and discounts on fitness products and services.

The new plan operates throughout California and Hawaii.
