State Sen. Melissa Hurtado’s first major piece of legislation was signed into law today.

Gov. Gavin Newsom is visiting the Central Valley this week to sign SB 200, which guarantees funds up to $130 million to communities to provide clean water — a cause Hurtado championed throughout her campaign.

“Today’s signing of SB 200 marks a significant milestone for California,” said Hurtado in a press release. “Growing up in the City of Sanger, I, along with my family and friends, encountered firsthand the challenges of limited availability to clean and affordable drinking water. Unfortunately, nearly one million-plus people continue to share that experience including our most vulnerable rural communities throughout the Southern Central Valley.”

Newsom signed the bill in the Sanger area, visiting with families afterward.
