Dutch Bros is expanding its capacity and stores in Fresno, with a new location at Palm and Herndon avenues. The location at Bullard and West avenues in this file photo had to be relocated because of the traffic volume generated by the coffee stand.

Come March of next year, coffee lovers will be waking up to a new Dutch Bros. location at the northeast corner Palm and Herndon avenues in Fresno.

Taking the walk-in model of its other store at Shaw and West avenues for guidance, the coffee franchise will be among other tenants in an almost 7,000-square-foot new development across from the CarMax, according to Brent Wilson, owner and franchisee.

Dutch Bros. will get about 1,600 square feet, which is about 100 square feet smaller than the 1,700-square-foot stand that took the place of the Weinerschnitzel at Shaw and West.

As patrons of the coffee company will notice, one of the biggest difficulties for the company is being able to serve the level of traffic that its stores experience during rush times.

“We’re a quick-serve coffee business,” Wilson said. “We’re fast, but the way it goes is we’re getting one cup out the window, a couple of extra cars get in line.”

The stand at Bullard and West avenues even had to move for much that same reason, according to Wilson.

Drivers-by could see cars wrapping the perimeter of the shopping center and filling the parking lot.

“We started this crazy following and we got a lot busier, and so we realized that we just weren’t fitting in that store,” Wilson said. “We tried for many years on coming to a resolution and better traffic pattern so we weren’t such a nuisance in that space.”

Now, developers are taking the traffic into account with the new location.

There is going to be ample parking, according to Wilson, and it’ll hold about 14-16 cars in the drive-thru.

Additionally, the company hopes that the new location will help balance the traffic from the two sites nearby. When the new location opens, it will be the sixth Dutch Bros in Fresno.

Wilson also hopes to have two new stores next year in the Fresno-Clovis area.
