Central Valley Community Sports Foundation President Terance Frazier and his attorney, David Weiland, hosted a news conference at Granite Park on Friday to discuss the announcement of the planned lease termination of Granite Park by the city of Fresno.

City Manager Georgeanne White stated in a news release on Nov. 6 that the Central Valley Community Sports Foundation owes the city $1.3 million. The costs include $708,000 in back rent, $263,000 in PG&E fees, $181,000 in billboard revenue and $151,000 in sewer fees.

Frazier began the news conference by calling out White’s “lies” about the lease termination and discussing the park’s impact on the community. Frazier mentioned that in the weeks before the lease termination, Fresno Mayor Jerry Dyer had high praise for Granite Park.

Frazier said that Granite Park, which was nothing but unused land until CVCSF took over, is now worth over $9 million according to an appraisal.

Frazier and Weiland made it clear that they would not surrender Granite Park to the city without a fight.

When asked if they would give up the complex, Weiland replied, “Hell no,” which was met with applause from the crowd made up of Granite Park employees and parents whose kids play at Granite Park.

One of Frazier’s key arguments was that Granite Park is helping kids in the area the same way Oakland Coliseum helped him as a child. Frazier talked about having a place to go to escape drugs and crime.

When asked why he doesn’t give up the park after all of the struggles he has had with the city over the past years, Frazier responded emotionally.

“I may give up all my real estate and all my investments, but my purpose is to save these kids’ lives because that’s what God did for me,” Frazier said. “So hell no, I’m not giving it up.”
