Local football fans were looking forward to meeting Oakland Raider running back Latavius Murray during Friday’s grand opening of Fresno’s new Dick’s Sporting Goods.


But that will not happen.

“Due to unforeseen circumstances, Latavius Murray will not be appearing this weekend,” the store has posted on its website.

As for the reason for the cancellation “They really didn’t give us details. They just notified us he’s not coming,” said Aman Longia, a store manager.

He added that he and other Dick’s staff assume the cancellation is due to the fact that Murray no longer a Raider. After four years with the California team, he signed with the Minnesota Vikings last week.

Murray had been scheduled to appear Friday at the new Dick’s at Marketplace at River Park – in the former Sports Authority building – to kick off the start of three days of grand opening events.

Oakland offensive lineman Donald Penn is now scheduled in make an appearance instead.
