Friday marked the end of a Downtown Fresno restaurant building.

Almost as suddenly as it closed in 2018, owners of the property that once housed El Torito restaurant had the 8,000 square-foot building demolished.

The permit for demolition was issued March 7. By Friday, the building at 2840 Tulare St. had been torn down.

The owner of the building was listed as former Fresno real estate broker Scott Negri of Monterey-based SKN Properties.

Negri said rather than keeping the building secure from break-ins it was easier to demolish it. He doesn’t have any plans at the moment for the property.

Negri purchased the lot a couple years ago after El Torito had shut down. He also owns the adjacent parcel that houses Grocery Outlet.
