The Clovis Unified School District Governing Board announced Monday that Corrine Folmer, Ed.D., has been unanimously elected as district superintendent, replacing current superintendent Eimear O’Brien, Ed.D., who is set to retire June 30.

The vote caps an eight-week, statewide search including multiple staff meetings, opportunities for input and more than 30 community and employee interview panelists.

Monday’s announcement is pending approval of an official employee contract at the board’s next meeting on March 29.

“Dr. Folmer fosters a culture of teamwork and openness everywhere she goes. She leads by valuing, hearing and motivating those around her,” said Board President David DeFrank. “The effectiveness of her approach is reflected in the substantial improvement of student outcomes during her leadership of the Clovis East area.”

DeFrank, along with fellow board members Tiffany Stoker Madsen and Hugh Awtrey ,all participated in a work group operating the search process on the board’s behalf.

Folmer is herself a graduate of Clovis Unified and is an experienced educational leader with a career spanning elementary and secondary educational roles. Folmer has served as a teacher, guidance instructional specialist, elementary principal and assistant superintendent.

Folmer has held the role of the district’s associate superintendent of school leadership, overseeing all of the district’s schools.

“Her breadth of experience and the respect she enjoys throughout our organization will serve her well as she leads the district in our never-ending pursuit of excellence and a fair break for every kid,” DeFrank said.

Folmer worked as a teacher and resource specialist in the Sierra Unified School District prior to working at Clovis Unified.

An official vote by the governing board is scheduled to take place during the board’s March 29 meeting in order to comply with the Ralph M. Brown Public Meeting Act, which requires a vote for top-level leaders. The contract will become public record once approved at the meeting.
