Pharmacy students at California health Sciences University in Clovis can now apply for federal student loan programs to finance their education.
The U.S. Department of Education recently determined that the university was eligible for the students of its Doctor of Pharmacy program to receive Federal Direct Unsubsidized and Federal Direct Grad PLUS loans starting the current academic year.
Prior to that, student had to rely on private loans to finance their education.
“We’re proud to achieve this critical and important milestone for our CHSU College of Pharmacy students,” said Florence T. Dunn, president at California Health Sciences University.
“Historically, 84% of our CHSU pharmacy students have utilized available private loan programs to help pay for their education. Providing our pharmacy students access to the Federal loan programs will significantly help to make their higher education more attainable,” stated President Dunn.
Current, incoming and prospective pharmacy students can apply through the Free Application for Federal Student Aid or FAFSA using the California Health Sciences University school code 042814.
Officials at the University plan to work with the U.S. Department of Education to determine eligibility for their new medical school students in their CHSU College of Osteopathic Medicine and plan to apply at the earliest possible time.
“Due to federal requirements, our hope is for our CHSU medical school students to be eligible for federal loan programs sometime during the 2022-2023 academic year,” said President Dunn. “Until that time, our medical school students will have private loan options to finance their education.”
