Bakersfield-based health center system Clinica Sierra Vista announced Tuesday the launch of its “Healthcare for the Homeless: Street Medicine” program, aiming to provide comprehensive medical care to Fresno’s homeless populations.

The program will focus on vulnerable encampments prioritizing primary and urgent care as well as specialized treatments, including Hep C treatment and wound care. The program will also emphasize harm reduction and support, street outreach  and case management services.

“Having consistent access to healthcare is so important, especially for the most vulnerable members of our community who don’t have a home,” said Cecilia Scott, program administrator. “This program is about more than just medical services — it’s about recognizing the worth of every person and making sure they feel valued. We’re really excited about this program and all the good it’s going to do for our community.”

Clinica Sierra Vista also provides services including housing navigation, social security application assistance and can help link community resources to homeless residents.

Clinica Sierra Vista also welcomes food, clothing, hygiene supplies and other donations, drawing on community involvement for the project’s success.

Funded by the CalAIM initiative through the Housing and Homelessness Incentive Program, the program reflects the commitment of the state and Clinica Sierra Vista in promoting the health and well-being of the community.

Clinica Sierra Vista encourages those who encounter homeless individuals in need of assistance to call an outreach specialist at (559) 273-1397. The hotline is available Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Calls placed outside those hours will be forwarded to a 24-hour call service to provide further assistance.
