The Caglia Environmental Pressure Cooker contest held at the MADE Central California food expo made its broadcast debut on CBS 47 Saturday.

The event consisted of an initial entry list of food business exhibitors that was narrowed down to ten finalists, each of whom competed for a $10,000 grand prize, as well as $2,500 and $1,000 cash prizes for second and third place finishers.

The competition, which featured some of California’s most innovative culinary products ranging from citrus spirits to dog biscuits, took place on Aug. 30 and was open to all participants in the MADE Central California expo.

The two-day event drew hundreds of industry professionals from around the state to the Fresno Convention Center to showcase their products.

“We got an opportunity to pitch our product in front of a panel of judges – some really esteemed individuals who gave us feedback as I presented on stage,” said Shica Little, founder and president of Dr. Shica’s Bakery. “It was amazing to be able to get the instant feedback from the judges.”

Dr. Shica’s Bakery was among the ten finalists in the competition.

The winner of the competition, Fresno-based St. Francis Homeless Project, took home the grand prize. Founder Sandra Kaye said the funds will largely go to purchasing new equipment for the organization.

The competition television special aired on Saturday and is available to view on the CBS 47 website.
