A recent hiring event has put a Mediterranean restaurant one step closer to opening in Fresno.

Between 50-60 people arrived to apply to Kabab City at what turned out to be a two-day hiring event, said owner Abdalla Qawadri.

Qawadri announced through social media and press releases he was looking for 20 people to staff the fifth location of his Central Valley restaurant at 682 E. Nees Ave., Suite 101.

While it was originally to be a one-day event, the first day he said he mostly received applicants with little to no experience. The second day, however, brought on applicants with a little more background in the food industry. He used online sources such as Indeed.com to gather applicants for the second day.

“Both worked good because you always need fresh new people,” said Qawadri.

Qawadri plans to have the north Fresno location open this month. At around Christmas time, he plans to open the doors at the second location at 6195 N. Figarden Dr. in northwest Fresno open.

Kabab City began in Fowler in 2013, opening its second location in Hanford in 2015. By 2018, Qawadri opened the Reedley location in 2018 and the Visalia location earlier this year.
