Fresno-based Wathen Castanos is participating in a new coastal community featuring more than 1,000 homes in the city of Marina in Monterey County.

Wathen Castanos is one of the first two builders on the project, called Sea Haven, which will feature nearly five acres of picnic and lawn park areas, more than a mile of walking trails and access to some of the city’s most popular hiking and biking paths.

Wathen Castanos Homes will build the first neighborhood, Layia, featuring one- and two-story homes.

“This is a special project on a one-of-a-kind property,” said Joshua E. Peterson, president of Wathen Castanos Homes. “Building exceptional homes is something we do everyday, but extraordinary homes by a seaside nature preserve, in a historical location? We consider this work an honor and look forward to building homes designed to complement and contribute to the lifestyle in Monterey County.”

The initial offering of residences at the first three neighborhoods are expected to run from the $500,000s to the $800,000s.

The Layia neighborhood is expected to come in early 2017, and feature three to five bedroom homes at 1,849 to 2,725 square feet. Villosa, another Wathern-Castanos project at Sea Haven, is expected in spring 2017 and will feature three to six bedroom homes from 2,380 to 3,411 square feet.
