The Clovis Veterans Memorial District is employing AI to give job-seeking veterans some confidence for in-person interviews.
The two part Veteran Strategic Hiring Event will have a mandatory dress rehearsal on Aug. 12 at 8 a.m. at the Clovis Veterans Memorial District building.
The main hiring event will take place on Aug. 19 at 8 a.m. This event will walk veterans through AI mock interviews, tips for in person interviews and on-site networking, according to a news release from the District.
Applicants start by delivering a three-minute personal pitch while an AI-generated slide summarizes their background and goals. After that, simulated employers — powered by ChatGPT — will ask interview questions.
Employers will also participate in a final, in-person interview.
Participating employers include the Bureau of Prisons, Fresno County Sheriffs Office and more.
“AI helps our veterans organize and deliver their verbal presentation with clarity and confidence, but it can’t pick up on body language, tone, or posture. That’s where we, as veteran employment professionals, step in to coach non-verbal communication and overall presence. It’s a partnership — AI handles structure, we handle soul.” stated Kyle Pennington, veterans service officer with the Fresno County Veterans Service Office.
All participants must register at Eventbrite and submit their resume to the email provided at the time of registration.
