Valley Children’s Hospital has expanded its partnership with Make-A-Wish Northeastern and Central California, committing $100,000 to fund a community benefit initiative aimed at increasing access to life-changing experiences for both physical and mental well-being of patients at the hospital.

The program operates through support of donors and volunteer partners, like Valley Children’s Hospital, to improve the lives of children experiencing serious and chronic health issues.

“Families navigating serious health challenges need more than medical care — they need hope, strength and a community that stands beside them,” says Todd Suntrapak, president and CEO of Valley Children’s Healthcare. “Our partnership with trusted organizations like Make-A-Wish reflects our deep commitment to lifting families during their most difficult times.”

Studies have indicated that positive emotions benefit both child patients and families in both short- and long-term care outlooks, with more than 80% of children and parents experiencing positive emotions following the completion of their wish.

Valley Children’s Hospital currently has 126 children awaiting wishes.

“Wishes are a crucial part of the medical journey, and we are thrilled to partner with Valley Children’s to ensure that as many children as possible experience this joy,” says Julie Hirota, CEO of Make-A-Wish Northeastern and Central California. “We are committed to bringing those wishes to life as quickly as possible.”

With the increased efforts, Make-A-Wish anticipates increases of up to 52% for wish referrals, going hand-in-hand with the partnership’s focus on strengthening emotional resilience in patients and their families.

Make-A-Wish Northeastern and Central California has granted over 10,000 wishes since its inception in 1983. The partnership between Valley Children’s Hospital and the foundation marks a significant step in improving the lives of children and families in the Valley.
