(AP) — The world’s best big-wave competition, Titans of Mavericks has been set for Friday.

The world’s premiere big wave surfing event is a one-day invitation-only surfing competition that is held at the legendary Mavericks surf break located near Half Moon Bay, about 20 miles south of San Francisco.

The 24-surfer field from around the globe got the call Tuesday afternoon and will now scramble to get to the Northern California coast by Friday.

The competition is held when the surf is just right, between Nov. 1 and March 31. National Weather Service forecasters are predicting waves between 13 and 14 feet on Friday but waves could reach up to 25 to 30 feet, with the occasional breaker hitting the 35-foot mark.

The contest was last held in 2014.
