Tejon Ranch Co. celebrated a major milestone on Friday as President and CEO Matthew Walker joined Joseph Tama, New York Stock Exchange Listings regional head for the Northeast, to ring the closing bell on Wall Street.

The ceremony at the New York Stock Exchange came one day after the grand opening of Hard Rock Casino Tejon, a $600 million casino project developed by the Tejon Indian Tribe.

Tejon Ranch Company isn’t a partner in the Hard Rock Tejon Casino, though it has a long-term relationship with the Tejon Indian Tribe to allow them access to the Ranch lands, the Tribe’s ancestral home. But the Casino is a separate development from Tejon Ranch Company’s assets.

“While we’re not participating economically in the casino development, the momentum in South Kern from Hard Rock Tejon, along with Tejon Ranch Company’s Outlets at Tejon and Tejon Ranch Commerce Center will create synergies for both properties. Our hope is that the Outlets will draw casino gamers to TRC’s retail, while Hard Rock Tejon attracts outlet shoppers to the Casino,” Ortiz said.

“We’re extremely excited about the Casino development and believe it will be an asset for the Tribe, Kern County and the Southern San Joaquin Valley,” Ortiz added.

Traded on the NYSE as TRC, Tejon Ranch Company shares were traded over the counter before joining the American Stock Exchange in 1973. It moved to the NYSE in 1999.

Tejon Ranch is located 15 miles south of Bakersfield in Kern County. Hard Rock Tejon Casino is Kern County’s first full-scale gaming and entertainment property. The casino has created over 1,000 permanent jobs and over 5,000 construction-related jobs.

“Today is a historic day for the Tejon Indian Tribe and for Kern County,” said Chairman Octavio Escobedo III of the Tejon Indian Tribe. “This destination represents our Tribe’s vision, resilience, and longstanding commitment to creating opportunity for future generations. We are proud to see this project come to life and to celebrate this moment alongside our partners and our community.”

The 150,000-square-foot casino features more than 2,000 slot machines, 50 table games and VIP high-limit rooms. Dining options include Hard Rock Café, a food hall and new concepts such as Deep Cut Steaks | Seafood and YouYu.

Phase II of the casino will include a 400-room hotel and a 2,800-seat Hard Rock Live venue. Hard Rock International Chairman Jim Allen said the expansion will position the property as a premier entertainment destination for all California travelers passing through Tejon.

“Hard Rock Casino Tejon is only the beginning,” Allen said. “Phase II will bring the full Hard Rock experience to life with a world-class hotel and Hard Rock Live entertainment venue that will make Kern County a premier destination for travelers, artists, and fans from across California and beyond.
