Steve Rodriguez, Owner
Bulldog Alarm Co.

What we do: Bulldog Alarm provides residential, business and new construction burglar alarms, as well as camera surveillance and access control systems. Over the last few years we have expanded into home and business automation including the energy management of lighting, thermostats and door lock systems.  All of our services can be managed through computer systems and smart phones. Customers have the ability to manage their system while at home or away, which provides a high level of convenience and peace of mind. They also have the option to be monitored by our local central station. With this service, our customers are protected 24/7 with immediate response from local police and emergency services.
Bulldog Alarm is proud of the fact that we do one installation at a time, with a single team approach.

Education:  I was educated locally and graduated from Fresno High School. I later continued on to Fresno City College, where I obtained my Liberal Arts degree.

Age: 58

Family: I have been married to my wife and business partner, Sandy, for almost 25 years.  We have three adult children and one grandson who all reside in Fresno.

How did you become involved in the home and commercial security business, Steve?
I have been in the security industry for over 35 years. When I was 22, I began working for my uncle, Greg Rodriguez. Uncle Greg started one of the first big alarm companies here in the Valley and taught me everything I needed to know about alarms back in the early eighties.
I spent many years working and managing local alarm companies all while taking business and entrepreneurship courses at Fresno City College. After acquiring the education and industry knowledge necessary, my wife Sandy and I decided to start our own alarm company.
I have been in business for myself over 22 years. Bulldog Alarm was started as a sole proprietorship but today I have three of my immediate family members employed by the company. My wife Sandy is the office manager, our son Eric is our lead technician and one of our installers and my middle daughter Christa does contract sales and marketing for us.

Is the need for home security strong in the local area, Steve?
Years ago, security systems were considered a luxury. Times have dramatically changed and this has created a need for personal and property protection. Statistics verify that people are 25 percent less likely to become a victim of personal and property crime if they have a security system. It is our job to help people feel safe in their own homes and businesses.

What is your key business strategy, Steve?
My business strategy is to continue maintaining solid relationships with our current customers while securing new business from a strong referral base. We promote the new technology that is available to ensure our existing customer base and potential new accounts have access to the latest and greatest systems.

I believe in the necessity of treating each customer as they were one of my family members. Each system is designed and implemented as if it were being installed in my own home. I also believe in educating the community and potential customers so that they have the knowledge to assume a proactive approach to their safety. All too often consumers are forced to be reactive after their home or business has been invaded or compromised.

What was your first job, Steve?
I began working as a Fresno “Bee Boy” delivering newspapers by foot at the age of 12.

What do you like to do in your spare time, Steve?
I am a huge San Francisco Giants fan and I love our local Grizzles’ baseball here at home in Fresno.  In my spare time, I enjoy the outdoors. I maintain my vegetable garden, play with my cocker spaniels and enjoy fishing and family.
