The Save Mart Companies announced Wednesday it has launched a Hawaii Wildfires Relief Fundraiser at its Save Mart, Lucky and FoodMaxx stores in California and Nevada to support the victims of wildfires on Maui.

The fundraiser, open to all Save Mart, Lucky California and FoodMaxx shoppers, will benefit the Hawaii Community Foundation’s Maui Strong Fund, which will provide financial resources that can be deployed to assist response and recovery efforts.

Donations to the fund will be printed on customer receipts and will be tax-deductible, with 100% of the proceeds dedicated to the fund.

“Our hearts go out to the victims of the deadly wildfires in Maui,” said The Save Mart Companies’ Chief Operating Office and Senior Vice President Donovan Ford. “This devastation is familiar to many residents in the communities we serve, and this fundraising effort is a convenient way for our shoppers to help support those faced with tremendous loss.”

The Save Mart Companies and The Save Mart Companies CARES Foundation will collectively match up to $10,000 of shopper donations to benefit the fund.

The Save Mart Companies operate approximately 200 stores throughout California and Nevada.

A brushfire in Maui was first reported on the morning of Tuesday, Aug. 8. and may have initially been thought to have been contained before reemerging later that day. By nightfall, smoke was seen at Lahaina Mooring Field. As of Wednesday, the death toll has reached 106 – for reference, the Camp Fire in Northern California claimed 86 lives.
