River Park Shopping Center is entering the realm of “esports” with a planned video game tournament available to the public on Sept. 22.

River Park is partnering with Clovis-based Knockout Esports Arena to host the “Rundown @ River Park,” where more than 20 gaming consoles will be set up for competitors to play against each other in games including Tekken 7, Super Smash Bros, Street Fighter and Dragonball Fighter Z.

“We recognize that ESports is on the rise, and wanted to bring something unique to the Shopping Center,” said Tracy Kashian, vice president of marketing and public relations for River Park. “Places like Bitwise in Downtown have hosted ESports events, and we wanted to join in on the fun. We couldn’t be more excited to see where this first event takes us.”

The tournament will run from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. at 7875 N. Via del Rio, which is the former Wet Seal space. To play, participants will need to pay a $10 entry fee and a $5 per-game fee. There will be $1,500 in pot bonuses available to competitors, as well as food specials for players from various River Park eateries.

Attendance is free for spectators.
