Planned Parenthood Mar Monte, Inc. in Fresno and Madera laid off a combined 15 positions in September, joining locations throughout the country. Dozens of positions have been affected statewide.

Four positions were slated for termination in Fresno and 11 in Madera in a batch of July Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act notices. The terminations were finalized on Sept. 24.

In July, ABC 30 reported on the closure of Madera’s Planned Parenthood center, leaving many unsure of where to turn for gender-specific health care.

July’s report also added that locations in South San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Cruz and Gilroy also closed their doors following the removal of about half of the organization’s funding.

The terminations come after President Trump’s push to defund the health clinics, which offer comprehensive sexual and reproductive assistance ranging from cancer screenings, preventive wellness and pregnancy testing and counseling to birth control and abortion services.

Just days into his presidency, Trump issued an executive order to stop the use of federal funds in abortion-related health care, and has continued to rally against the nonprofit. This summer, a portion of H.R.1 — the “Big Beautiful Bill” — banned federal Medicaid payments to abortion providers.

Planned Parenthood continues to operate three clinics in Fresno.
