A new pizza restaurant opened in Clovis Friday, marking the chain’s first foray into the Golden State.

Russo’s New York Pizzeria opened at the Windmill Marketplace at 1845 Herndon Ave near Herndon and Fowler avenues.

Husband-and-wife franchisees Don and Katharina Haines have signed on for five locations of the Houston-based pizza restaurant in the area, according to a press release.

“My husband and I first discovered Russo’s when we lived in Houston about six years ago,” said Katharina Haines in the release. “We love the food, service, and the entire Russo’s concept and franchise model. This is our first time entering the food service industry, and were initially attracted to the idea of owning a Russo’s because of the high quality authentic Italian cuisine paired with the hands-on training and support we get from Anthony Russo and his team.”

The location will focus on takeout and delivery, but has seating for 25 guests.

The Haines recently moved back to California after Katharina spent may years working in event management and marketing while Don spent more than 30 years in the power plant business.

The Haines plan to open all five locations in Fresno County over the next five years, the release stated.
