William “Michael” Betts IV, chairman and CEO of Betts Company in Fresno State, was installed as the new president of the Spring Manufacturers Institute (SMI) during the association’s 2016 annual meeting in Dana Point. Betts will serve a two-year term for the trade association that represents the North American spring manufacturing industry.
EDUCATION
Lilliana Toste, a senior from Lemoore majoring in communicative disorders (speech-language pathology) at Fresno State, was honored as the 2016 University Volunteer of the Year by the Jan and Bud Richter Center for Community Engagement and Service-Learning. She will receive a $1,500 scholarship from the Marc and Marjorie Radin Community Service Scholarship fund. Other students receiving awards include Whitney Ferdinandsen with the John D. Welty Award for Excellence in Community Service; Navmit Dhesi as the 2016 Campus Compact Newman Civic Fellow; and Andrea Wilson, Humanics at Fresno State Spirit of Service Honoree.

Alvaro Garcia, franchise owner of Jersey Mike’s Subs in the Fresno-Clovis territory, was recently awarded the chain’s prestigious President’s Award at its recent national conference in Orlando, Florida. Garcia owns more than three-dozen stores, mostly in Southern California.
BANKING
Rachel Greig has been promoted to the position of vice president, agribusiness relationship officer in the agribusiness-lending department of Fresno-based Central Valley Community Bank. Greig joined the bank in 2015, and has more than eight years of ag lending experience.
