Restaurant Month for Madera County’s Visit Yosemite agency means a celebration of several restaurants and a chance for food fans to enjoy five restaurants’ special offers in the area.

Held each January for the past eight years, Restaurant Month is put on by Visit California, a nonprofit organization that markets the state as a tourist destination, according to a press release from Visit Yosemite | Madera County.

“Restaurant Month is an incredible opportunity to take advantage of some of the most authentic culinary experiences in our destination, some not available any other time of the year,” Therese Williams of Visit Yosemite said. “January is also a great time to get hotel deals and experience the diversity of what our destination offers, from hiking to wine tasting.”

For residents and visitors to Madera County, five restaurants will be participating — The Vineyard Restaurant in Madera, South Gate Brewing Company in Oakhurst, Ducey’s on the Lake in Bass Lake, Crab Cakes Family Restaurant in Oakhurst and the Majestic Yosemite Hotel in Yosemite National Park.

The chefs at the Majestic Yosemite Hotel, which many knew previously as the Ahwanee Hotel in Yosemite National Park, will be holding cooking demonstrations for hotel guests between Jan. 7 and Feb. 1, according to their website.

They’ll be offering what they advertise as cosmopolitan fare, as well as “bold Asian flavors and delightful French influences” at their restaurant.

Moving along the European continent, The Vineyard Restaurant will be having deals on its Porchetta dish, a traditional Italian pork roast, according to Chris Mariscotti, owner of The Vineyard Restaurant.

“It’s a good cold-weather dish and a classic thing to eat on the streets of Italy. It’s a good stick-to-your-ribs comfort food with a lot of flavor,” said Mariscotti.

South Gate Brewing Company is releasing a new brew for restaurant month to take care of the beverage side of things. The Easy Ryeder Rye IPA is made of rye malt, citra and mosaic hops that pairs with their farm-to-table dishes, according to the press release.

Just down the road from Yosemite in Bass Lake, Ducey’s will be offering a three-course meal as their way of celebrating fare in Madera County. The meal starts with salad and a Harris Ranch filet mignon, according to Amanda Brouillette, restaurant supervisor at Ducey’s on the Lake. It’ll be served with mashed potatoes and steamed vegetables, followed by a chef’s choice dessert, paired with a glass of house wine for $30.

Crab Cakes Family Restaurant was not immediately available for comment.
