The California Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD) awarded Madera County $1 million towards housing and well rehabilitation.

Funds awarded will be used for rehabilitating homes and wells, general administration costs and activity delivery costs for the program.

The housing rehabilitation program is meant for low income families who need help in making repairs and general property improvements to both owner and renter occupied units. Improvements would include repair or replacement of principle fixtures and components of existing structures, water or sewer laterals from the main water line to the dwelling, water and energy usage, and temporary relocation assistance.

Madera County also included well rehabilitation as a part of its application, but wells can only be rehabilitated along with the home and not separately.

Madera County has participated in the grant program starting in the 1980s and has provided assistance to over 300 families since.
