High Sierra Showerheads in Coarsegold fabricates the Half Dome rain shower head.

Hundreds of Golden State products have been nominated to the Coolest Thing Made in California competition, including a longtime local manufacturer of shower heads.

Through Sept. 8, the public has an opportunity to cast the first round of votes in the competition hosted by the California Manufacturers & Technology Association (CMTA).

The Coolest Thing Made in California competition aims to celebrate the spirit of innovation and creativity that defines the Golden State, according to a CMTA news release. California boasts 30,000 manufacturers and 1.3 million employees that contribute $310 billion to the state’s annual GDP.

 

One of those companies is High Sierra Showerheads of Coarsegold, which was nominated for the competition. Founded in 2010, owner David Malcolm adapted irrigation sprinkler technology to make a water-saving shower head. Its product called the Half Dome rain shower head is up for the nomination.

The public can vote up to five times per day by visiting the coolestthingcalifornia.com website.

After the first “popular” round of voting, there will be there will be a Top 16, Top 8 and Top 4 round, with a winner announced Oct. 6 on National Manufacturing Day.
