Kathy Bray

President

Denham Resources

What does Denham Resources do?
We are a staffing, executive recruiting and human resources consulting company.  We place people on temporary, temp to hire, and direct hire basis with a wide variety of companies in positions ranging from clerk to CEO.

Your education:
Bachelor’s Degree in child development from Fresno State.

Age:
63

Family:
Our daughter Katie is married to Edgar Blunt and our son, Joe, is married to Jennifer.  Katie and Edgar have 3 boys, Oliver, Hudson and Grady; and Joe and Jennifer have one, Tyler. We have 4 dogs, 4 cats, 2 horses, 4 chickens, and a donkey.

How did you come to your position as president of Denham Resources, Kathy?
My husband Dave started working for Denham in 1970 and I was a teacher at the time, but helped out initially on to cover vacations as the receptionist. When I was no longer teaching, I then started “temporarily” to help out in many different areas from recruiting to bookkeeping (bad idea!) and just sort of morphed into becoming President.

What are your primary responsibilities as president, Kathy?
As with any small business, as owner, I do whatever needs to be done but am officially our operations and human resources manager.

When did you decide to make your career in this business, Kathy?
When I just kept doing more and taking on more responsibility, I realized that I really love what we do and how we do it and couldn’t think of any other job I’d rather do.

How is your industry doing at the present time, Kathy? Has it suffered from the recession?
The recession has been very hard for our industry, both here and nationally.  That being said, we are seeing cautious optimism in our clients.  We are definitely seeing an increase in all areas.

What is the most rewarding part of your job, Kathy? The most difficult?
What we do every day is intrinsically rewarding because everyone in our company is here because we believe we make a difference. In the past 3 years, the most difficult thing has been hearing the stories of people and companies who have suffered in this economy.

What do you ultimately hope to accomplish with Denham Resources, Kathy?
We strive every day in every interaction to make life better for those with whom we come in contact. Our BHAG (Big Hairy Audacious Goal) is to be the dominant and most respected staffing, recruiting and HR consulting company in Central California. (from Bakersfield to Stockton, Central Coast and Monterey Bay areas)

What was your first job growing up, and what did you learn from it, Kathy?
My first job was working in my dad’s construction company as receptionist.

What do you like to do in your spare time, Kathy?
I read, spend time with my family and pets, garden, and ride horses.  Ok, technically, I don’t ride horses-I have them, I feed them, I give them shots, get their feet trimmed, buy them food, and admire them!
