Jeff Tedford has been named head coach of the Fresno State Bulldogs football team.

Tedford is a Fresno State alum who played quarterback for the Bulldogs from 1981-82. He later coached under Jim Sweeney, from 1987-88 and 1992-96, and Pat Hill in 1997.

Tedford has 11 years of head coaching experience at the Division 1 level, having led the California Golden Bears to 82 wins from 2002-2012.

Fresno State Athletic Director Jim Bartko, who announced the hire Thursday morning, said Tedford has all the qualities the Bulldogs were looking for in a new head coach.

“I have faith that Jeff is just the ticket to bring back the winning tradition of Fresno State football,” Bartko said in a statement.
