Visalia Unified School District will break ground on a new elementary school near Riverway Sports Park during a ceremony to be held at 10 a.m. on May 26.

The event, open to the public, will be held near Giddings Street and Shannon Parkway.

Todd Oto, the newly appointed superintendent of VUSD, will attend the event along with members of the VUSD board of trustees and the Visalia City Council.

The new school’s architect and builder as well as representatives of the Tulare County Office of Education will also be in attendance.

The school will open in the fall of 2017. The principal, once selected, will work with staff and the community to determine the new school’s name and mascot.

“VUSD is committed to student success and achievement and providing quality facilities is an important component of that success,” Oto said. “I am grateful to have a visionary team of VUSD staff members, talented architects and builders and a supportive community that work together for the good of our students.”
