Fresno-based Sierra Vista Healthcare Center is preparing to offer one of the nation’s first telemedicine platforms developed for a skilled nursing facility.

Sierra Vista Healthcare Center has partnered with CEP America to offer the program, which will make it possible for a physician to offer night and weekend coverage via a secure, high definition video platform.

When it launches Nov. 1, the platform will allow the skilled nursing facility physician to communicate with and examine patients in their own room. With written permission, patients’ families can also be patched in on the visit.

“Post-acute care settings today must provide much more quality and value than ever before,” said DeAnn Walters, administrator for Sierra Vista, in a statement. “Not only is the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) looking more closely to ensure the provision of great care for complex patients, but patients and their families want and need the highest levels of care as well.”
