Fresno’s Radio Bilingue will receive an $80,000 grant from Facebook, part of $16 million in grants to 200 news organizations across the country.
It is part of the Facebook Journalism Project’s relief fund for local news.
More than 2,000 applications for funding came from newsroom across the U.S. to help publishers continue to serve their communities during the coronavirus outbreak.
Nearly four in five of the recipients are family or independently owned, half are published by or for communities of color, nearly 40% primarily publish online and just over a third are non-profits, according to a news release from Faceboook.
Founded in 1980 in Fresno, Radio Bilingue today is a community-based radio network reaching about 100 affiliate stations throughout the U.S. and Mexico. It operates as a non-profit and is geared toward providing news and cultural information to the Latino community.
