The Fresno Grizzlies and CalViva Health have partnered to host Back2School Night at Chukchansi Park during the Grizzlies Saturday matchup against the San Jose Giants.

The promotion hopes to give away more than 2,000 backpacks filled with school supplies — with a goal of promoting back-to-school readiness. The event will also promote well-child visits, helping keep children’s health and wellness in mind heading into the 2022-23 school year.

“We are excited to support an event promoting healthy behaviors, while providing backpacks to kids in our community,” said Jeffrey Nkansah, CEO of CalViva Health. “Events like this can’t happen without the help of local businesses, nonprofits, and of course our faithful baseball fans.”

The first 2,000 children in attendance on Aug. 6 will be eligible to receive a free backpack filled with school supplies while supplies last. The park opens at 5:50 p.m., with the game scheduled to start at 6:50.

“All of us at the Fresno Grizzlies are extremely proud to have the opportunity to host Back2School Night,” said Grizzlies’ President Derek Franks. “Everything we do as an organization has our community in mind and we are beyond grateful to our generous corporate partners for helping make this event a reality.”

The event was made possible by community partners Family HealthCare Network, San Joaquin Valley Rehabilitation Hospital, Valley Health Team, United Health Centers, Fresno County Office of Education, Health Net, Fresno First Bank, United Cerebral Palsy of Central California and Johanson Transportation Services.
