The Fresno County Board of Supervisors has approved an amendment to the County Ordinance Code, providing the regulation and enforcement of massage establishments within county boundaries.

The amendment aims to protect public health, safety and welfare by providing orderly regulation of businesses that lawfully provide massage therapy services and discourage illegal activities carried out under the guise of massage therapy.

“This is a necessary step to help ensure that our communities, residents and business are protected against criminal activity,” said Buddy Mendes, District 4 Supervisor and board chairman. “The safety of our county is always the top priority, and this action give our deputies and departments the tools they need to keep crime out.”

The Fresno County Sheriff’s office, in coordination other county departments, developed the proposed regulations and a permitting process for massage businesses located in the unincorporated areas or the county.

The ordinance will be used in coordination with local municipal jurisdictions that already have a permitting and enforcement process in place
