Fresno City College will be hosting a grand opening Friday for its new student food pantry.
The Ram Pantry has an initial goal of providing food free of charge for up to 300 students. It will distribute food Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. while supplies last. Current students with an ASB card are eligible to shop at the Ram Pantry.
The Ram Pantry is located on the first floor of the Bookstore Building.
According to a news release, the Ram Pantry seeks to address the problem of food insecurity among students.
“If a student has gone through the dilemma of having to purchase books or food, they have experienced food insecurity,” according to the release. “Food insecurity means not knowing when your next meal will be. It is when an individual has limited access to adequate food.”
Contributions from Fresno City College faculty and staff made a permanent home for the Ram Pantry possible. Fresno City College is now seeking donations of food or money to keep it stocked and sustained.
