Fresno Yosemite International Airport has announced a partnership with the Fresno Arts Council to create a public art piece aimed at welcoming travelers upon arrival to the Central Valley.

An announcement by the Fresno Arts Council states that the space is approximately 390 square feet, and will be painted on the exterior of the newly constructed Fresno Yosemite International Airport (FAT) parking garage. The space is located on the northeast facade of the structure.

“A new public art piece at Fresno Yosemite International Airport celebrating our community and region will be enjoyed by the nearly 2 million annual travelers that pass through our airport and their friends and family who arrive to greet them,” said Director of Aviation Henry Thompson. “We value our partnership with the Fresno Arts Council and their expertise in helping us procure a unique art piece that will insert life into the parking structure and transform the space.”

The Fresno Arts Council has set a budget of $35,000 for the project and asks that all proposals should include the cost of labor and any additional expenses.

The council would prefer the artist to be local, but will accept applications from out of the Fresno area.

Applicants are required to submit design concepts either on a flash drive, in person or by mail, and must include their name, email, address and phone number.

Other requirements include a one-page letter of interest, one-page budget, a current resume, five images of current and relevant work, up to six digital images of proposed work, including title, media, size and description, and one to two letters of recommendation with contact information.

In addition to the requirements, the council also requires applicants to be at least 18 years old.

There is no entry fee for applicants.

Applicants can mail or drop off applications at the Fresno Arts Council office, located at 1245 Van Ness Ave. in Downtown Fresno.

Selected artists will be notified of their selection status on Oct. 7, with the project slated for completion by Dec. 31, 2022.

Questions about project submissions may be directed to Eric Martinez at eric@fresnoartscouncil.org.
